What Should My Blood Glucose Be?

The chart below gives you some target goals to strive toward. Your goal range may be different from someone else. Your healthcare provider will guide you as to a target range that is appropriate for you.

*Make sure that the blood sugar machine you are using for self-testing is plasma calibrated (this means that your results would be close to those obtained on laboratory equipment). If your machine is older than 5 years, you may want to consider a new machine as technology is constantly improving with newer machines.

For women with gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy), the American Diabetes Association recommends

  • A fasting glucose less than 105
  • A 2-hour glucose less than 130
