History
In 1970, our organization was known as Parents of Diabetic Children, Inc., and was formed by a group of concerned parents with diabetic children.
In 1982, membership was extended to include all diabetic individuals, their families and other interested persons. The group became the Erie County Diabetes Association, Inc.,-ECDA.
It is the organization’s belief that the most effective ways of dealing with diabetes are: facing the denial, learning all you can about diabetes, and having contact with other people with diabetes and their families who share and understand the problems you are facing in having diabetes.
Our committment to diabetes includes promoting initiatives to prevent diabetes. We wholeheartedly support the current worldwide resolution to "Unite For Diabetes".

All of our services are designed to "bridge the gaps" and augment what other community providers offer.

Funding
ECDA is a local independent non-profit agency which has been serving Erie County and the surrounding area for 25 years.
ECDA is not a United Way agency and is not affiliated with the American Diabetes Association or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and therefore, receive no financial support from them.
Each year the ECDA has been able to continue its efforts in our community through supporter contributions, private and anonymous donations, memorials, fundraising events and corporation donations.
All monies raised remain for use in Erie County.
We Participate in the Community!
The Erie County Diabetes Association responds to the growing needs of the community.
We maintain participation in health related educational activities in the Erie community.
Collaborative participation with all local health providers is a major component in addressing the current diabetes epidemic.
"As a case worker in the hospital setting, I am frequently involved in Personal Testimonialsdischarge planning for patients with no insurance. ECDA has been extremely helpful in steering these individuals to community resources to ease the discharge transition."
WANTED!
Volunteers for ECDA to assist with office tasks, especially computer data entry and fund-raising activities.

Meet our Nurse and Director of Program and Services
Nicole Wolf joined our ECDA staff in December 2008. She serves a dual role as the programs and services director and outreach nurse. If you have any diabetes related questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact her at (814)454-0715. She would welcome any suggestions regarding additional services ECDA could offer.
As a result of speaking with the ECDA nurse I was able to use the information gained to negotiate a better plan of care in the school setting for my 7 year old diabetic child.
